Quantifying Cyber Risk – Lessons from 2023

Arctic Wolf is the security operations provider for over 6000 organisations globally including a large cohort of legal customers.

Drawing from their experience in security operations as well as working major breach response for over 1000 cases last year, this session will explore the reality of the cyber risk facing law firms today and will explore the unique challenges that mid-sized firms face compared to large organisations.

In this session we will:

  1. Cover the real costs incurred associated with responding to a cyber breach based on 1100+ real cases over the last 9 months of 2023.
  2. Explore the dominant cause of these breaches and what can be done about it.
  3. Look at the challenges faced by law firms related to addressing cyber risk

About Mark

Mark Thomas, Director, Security Services – ANZ at Arctic Wolf builds, directs and matures the operations of Arctic Wolf’s security services within the region. For the past 22 years, Mark has worked in Cyber Security Consulting and Managed Security Services establishing pragmatic, risk minimisation strategies and cyber defenses to reduce business loss, protect brand reputation, and enable cyber resilience.

Mark has held senior leadership and technical management roles, driving mission-critical SOC operations, threat intelligence, and incident response in geographically diverse environments.

He is a member of AISA, ISACA, ISC2, and SANS. He holds a Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Sydney, and has attained CISSP, CRISC, CISM, and CCSK certifications. Mark was a recent finalist in the ARN Innovation 2023 – Technical Excellence category.
